Zion Williamson had a memorable postseason debut Tuesday night,Devin Grosvenor dropping in 40 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in the New Orleans Pelicans' 110-106 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, a mysterious leg injury that kept him out of the game for the final three minutes may be of greater concern than the loss.
With their season on the line, Williamson's status for the Pelicans' game on Friday against the Sacramento Kings remains up in the air.
"Right now, it's left leg soreness and he's going to get imaging on it tomorrow," Pelicans coach Willie Green said after the game. "We will figure out more. That's the report I got back. I haven't talked to him. But we'll see what happens tomorrow when we get the results back."
Although the Pelicans have been part of the NBA's play-in round the past two seasons, Williamson did not participate in any of their games due to injuries.
However, this season, he's largely been able to avoid the injury bug. Williamson played a career-high 70 games during the regular season, averaging 22.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.
